Safety. Efficiency. Accountability.

In the spring of 2016, we brought together a group of conservative leaders and criminal justice advocates to explore interest in forming a conservative led advocacy organization focused on pragmatic criminal justice reform. We realized that, because of “tough on crime” values, often conservatives were reluctant to demand the same accountability and efficiency of our public safety systems as we expect of all other sectors of government.

We began meeting with conservative leaders, elected officials, judges as well as corrections officials and members of law enforcement. The response was overwhelmingly positive as we were repeatedly met with a list of issues these individuals saw as entirely consistent with conservative values.

Our first priority was to support Chief Justice Martin’s recommendation that NC raise the juvenile age – it was successfully implemented in December 2019. Our next priority was the Second Chance Act, which was passed with unanimous bipartisan support and was signed into law in the spring of 2020. Now, we are excited to be working on new opportunities to help bring awareness to reentry and pretrial reform.
